Bambu Lab AMS
The Bambu Lab AMS is an automatic material system.
The system securely keeps your filament protected from moisture and automatically switches the used filament during a print. This allows you to combine multiple colors and materials in a single print object.
An AMS unit holds 4 spools. To work with the maximum of 16 colors/materials, you need 4 AMS stations and an AMS Hub.

Intelligent System
Powered by a 32-bit MCU, numerous sensors, actuators, and an intelligent algorithm, the AMS has achieved an unprecedented level of intelligence. It reliably manages the loading and unloading of filaments, as well as efficient error detection and resolution.
Filament winding detection
If the filament encounters resistance at the tool head, indicating entanglement or spool jamming, the AMS can immediately recognize this and pause the print to avoid printing in the air.
Keeps your filament dry
The AMS is hermetically sealed and uses a drying agent to absorb moisture, keeping your filament dry.
Additionally, a humidity sensor detects the humidity inside the AMS and alerts you if it is too high or if the drying agent needs replacement.
Dry filament is essential for optimal print quality.
Automatic filament identification
Bambu Lab filaments use RFID tags read by the AMS, automatically loading the best settings for the respective material.
The RFID tag is automatically synchronized with Bambu Studio.
Non-Bambu Lab filaments need manual configuration in Bambu Studio or on the printer.
Supports up to 16 colors (with AMS Hub)
Each Bambu Lab AMS consists of 4 filament slots, and up to 4 AMS can be installed in parallel, supporting up to 16 colors, enabling stunning prints. To achieve 16 colors, 4 AMS need to be connected via the AMS Hub.
Ecological: reusable spool
Bambu Lab places great value on an optimized CO2 footprint. For example, the company delivers its filament on a modular spool system to reduce plastic waste.
Each AMS unit comes with 4 reusable spools:
- 1 high-temperature spool
- 3 low-temperature spools
3MF
The Bambu Lab Slicer inherently supports 3MF files. 3MF is an optimized file format (alternative to STL) that offers the possibility to store multiple materials and colors in a single object file.
Important notes:
Flexible, brittle, or abrasive filaments are not compatible with the AMS, e.g., Bambu PET-CF/TPU 95A and TPE, TPV, PVA, PET-CF/GF, PA-CF/GF, PAHT from other brands. CF/GF, etc.
